Federal Health Care Reform Legislation: What it Means for Michigan Employers

Presented by Gregory W. Moore and Wendy Block Tuesday, May 18, 2010 10:00 - 11:00 AM EST President Obama has signed landmark legislation on health care reform into law and the impact on employers is substantial and complicated. For the first time, many employers will be subjected to penalties if they do not offer coverage to employees or if the coverage fails an affordability test. Down the road, employers also could be affected by a new tax on costly health insurance plans if health care plan costs continue to rise. To help employers keep up with the latest developments, we have developed a webinar to address key provisions on health care reform and explain how it affects fully-insured health plans, self-funded healthcare plans, corporate wellness programs, voluntary benefits and more. Learn how these reforms will impact you and your employees with Gregory Moore, an attorney who heads up Clark Hill's Healthcare Initiative Wendy Block, Director of Health Policy & Human Resources at the Michigan Chamber. Items to be addressed: Employer Fines and Penalties Employer Information Reporting Requirements Employer Mandated Coverage Prohibition Regarding Discrimination in Favor of Highly Compensated Employees Small Employer Tax Credits Health Savings Account and Flexible Spending Account Changes Pre Existing Condition Prohibitions Auto Enrollment Requirements Early Retiree Health Coverage Expansion of Coverage for Dependants Under Age 26 Prohibition on Lifetime Maximums State Exchange Programs Tax on Cadillac Plans Sign up here: http://bit.ly/ChamberWebinar

I could understand why employers aren't unhappy with this health care reform (now signed into law). This would really mean more expenses on their part. I don't know but I think I will never have a strong opinion on this health care issue.
